Проповідь виголошена на похороні блаженної пам’яті Високопреосвященнійшого Митрополита Івана ( Стінки) Митрополитом Іларіоном 23 вересня 2022 року.
Сьогодні 23 вересня 2022 року ми зібралися в кафедральному соборі Пресвятої Трійці УПЦК м. Саскатуні, щоб віддати останню честь і попрощатися з новоприставленим слугою Божим Митрополитом Іваном. З ласки Божої наш дорогий Митрополит Іван почав служити Богу як священнослужитель з 1973 року, майже як півстоліття тому, а 1983 був висвячений на єпископа Саскатуну. З 1985 року до 2005 був єпископом Едмонтону і Західної єпархії і з 2005 року до 2010 був Митрополитом УПЦК. Багато є покликаних, але мало вибраних Господом. Господь вибрав нашого дорогого Митрополита Івана і наклав на нього нелегкий хрест, бути наслідником апостолів, єпископом Святої Православної Церкви. Святі апостоли за свого життя багато терпіли. Бути єпископом -це нести нелегкий хрест, це бути наслідником апостолів і самого Господа. Мітру, яку носить єпископ символізує терновий вінець Господа, коли дуже мало людей тебе підтримують і з тобою, але більшість проти тебе. Сьогодні ти чуєш «осанна», а завтра ти чуєш «розіпни і розіпни його». Наш дорогий Владика Іван в своєму житті як єпископ чув слово « осанна», але також дуже часто чув слова « розіпни розіпни його». Але Господь справедливий Суддя і кожному воздасть по його ділах. Нехай Господь простить тим, які чинили зло йому, бо вони не знали , що чинили. Але Господь ніколи не залишає тих, що вірять в Нього, а особливо вірно служать Йому, після скорбот і страждань, Господь їх сподобить бачити світло Його Святого Воскресіння. Митрополит Іван був вірним слугою Господа, а де Господь там слуга Його буде.
Владика Іван був добрим і милостивим і нікому не робив зла, він мав велике серце наповнене любов’ю і прощенням. Він був вірним слугою Божим і був для всіх нас прикладом в слові, в ділі, любові, в дусі і вірі. Він приніс багато рясних плодів в Винограднику Христовому. Дорогий владико Іван, ти дозволив, що світло твоє просвітилося перед людьми, що і вони побачили добрі діла твої і прославили Отця нашого,що є на небесах”
Народжений на Саскачеванській землі , він став єпископом Саскатуну і сьогодні земля Саскачевану приймає тіло свого Святителя в свої обійми. Це велике благословення Боже бути єпископом і в багатьох православних народах є благочестива традиція відвідувати могилу свого єпископа в часи біди і нещасть і просити його молитовної допомоги перед Богом, бо він має особливу ласку заступництва перед Богом за ввірену йому паству навіть після смерті.
Тихий і смиренний з приємною посмішкою Митрополит Іван завоював любов і повагу в Едмонтоні і Західній єпархії, де він 20 років ревно служив Богу і людям. З вдячністю і любов’ю згадую владику Митрополита Івана, як він відносився до мене і владики Андрія ще тоді молодих єпископів в 2008 році прошу в нього прощення, що недостатньо йому допомагав в його служінні як Митрополита УПЦК.
Дорога родино, прийміть від мене особисто і від всієї повноти УПЦК наші глибокі співчуття з упокоєнням визначного члена вашої родини – Його Високопреосвященства Митрополита Івана. Дорогі отці, яких висвятив Митрополит Іван, згадуйте все своє життя в молитвах і в Святих Літургіях , Вашого ново приставленого духовного батька. Дякую всім отцям , які сьогодні вшанували своєю молитовною присутністю нашого Митрополита Івана. Щиро дякую отцю настоятелю Собору митрофорному протоієрею Тарасу Маковському з соборною управою, пані Лаврентію Клопущаку з хором за організацію похоронних служб. Особливо дякую нашим дорогим віруючим, які сьогодні і вчора прийшли помолитися за спокій душі новоприставленого слуги Божого Митрополита Івана.
Нехай благословення ново приставленого слуги Божого митрополита Івана буде з усіма вами. Вічная йому пам’ять!
Today, September 23, 2022, we are gathered here in the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada in Saskatoon to pay our last respects and bid farewell to the newly reposed Servant of God, His Eminence Metropolitan Ivan.
By the grace of God, our dear Metropolitan Ivan began to serve God as a clergy in 1973, almost half a century ago, and in 1983 he was ordained as the bishop of Saskatoon. From 1985 to 2005, he was the bishop of Edmonton and the Western Eparchy, and from 2005 to 2010, he was the Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada.
Many are called, but few are chosen by the Lord. The Lord chose our dear Metropolitan Ivan and laid a heavy cross on him, to be the successor of the apostles, the bishop of the Holy Orthodox Church. The holy apostles suffered a lot during their lives. Being a bishop who is a successor of the apostles and the Lord Himself, is a very heavy cross to bear and few are chosen by the Lord to fulfill this service. The miter worn by the bishop symbolizes the Lord’s crown of thorns. A bishop often is in a position where very few people support and are with him. The majority are against him. Today he may hear the word “Hosanna”, and tomorrow he may hear the words “Crucify and crucify him.” During his life as a bishop, our dear Metropolitan Ivan heard the words “Hosanna”, but many times, he also heard the words “Crucify him, crucify him”. But the Lord is a just Judge and He will reward each one according to his deeds.
May the Lord forgive those who did evil to him, because they did not know what they were doing. The Lord never leaves those who believe in Him, and especially those who faithfully serve Him. After affliction and suffering, the Lord will reward them to see the light of His Holy Resurrection. Metropolitan Ivan was a faithful servant of the Lord, and where the Lord is, there will be His servant.
Metropolitan Ivan was kind and merciful and did no harm to anyone. He had a big heart filled with love and forgiveness. He was a faithful servant of God and was an example for all of us: in word, in deed, in love, in spirit, in faith. He bore many abundant fruits in the Vineyard of Christ. Dear Metropolitan Ivan, you “let the light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify our Father who is in Heaven.”
He was born on Saskatchewan soil; he became the bishop of Saskatoon, and today the soil of Saskatchewan receives him and embraces their bishop. It is a great blessing from God to be a bishop and in many Orthodox nations there is a pious tradition to visit the grave of your bishop in times of trouble and misfortune and ask him to pray for help before God. He has great favor before God to intercede for the flock entrusted to him, even after death.
Quiet and humble, with a pleasant smile, Metropolitan Ivan won love and respect in Edmonton and the Western Eparchy, where he faithfully served God and His people for 20 years. With gratitude and love, I remember Metropolitan Ivan, especially how he treated me and Bishop Andriy, young bishops back then in 2008. I ask him for forgiveness for not helping him enough as he fulfilled his service as the metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada.
His All-Holiness Bartholomew, Archbishop of Constantinople – New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch, sends his condolences to the plenitude of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, and to the family of newly reposed Metropolitan Ivan.
His Eminence Archbishop Sortirios of Canada also sends condolences to the clergy and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, and to the family of the newly departed Metropolitan Ivan.
Dear family, please accept our deep condolences from me personally and from the whole of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, on the passing of a prominent member of your family – His Eminence Metropolitan Ivan. Dear fathers who were ordained by Metropolitan Ivan, commemorate him in prayers and in Holy Liturgies all your life, your cherished spiritual father. Thank you to all the fathers who honored our Metropolitan Ivan today with their prayerful presence. I sincerely thank Cathedral Dean, Mitred Archpriest Taras Makowsky and the parish council, Choir Director Larry Klopoushak and the choir, for organizing the funeral services. I especially thank our dear faithful who came today and yesterday to pray for the repose of the soul of the newly departed servant of God, Metropolitan Ivan.
May the blessing of the newly reposed servant of God, Metropolitan Ivan, be with all of you. May his memory be eternal!
