On Saturday, August 8, 2026, the 10th Saturday after Pentecost, His Eminence Metropolitan Ilarion celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, surrounded by clergy from the Central, Western, and Eastern Eparchies of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada.

During the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence ordained Ivan Savyak to the Holy Diaconate.

The ordination was a joyful occasion for the clergy and faithful gathered at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral as the Church welcomed a new Deacon into the ranks of the Holy Orders. Through the laying on of hands and the prayer of the Church, Ivan Savyak was entrusted with the ministry of the Diaconate and called to serve Christ and His Holy Church with humility, faithfulness, and love.

Assisting His Eminence in the Divine Liturgy were: The Chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, the Mitred Archpriest Cornell Zubritsky, The Right Reverend Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Taras Krochak, The Mitred Archpriest Bohdan Demczuk, The Mitred Archpriest Taras Makowsky, The Archpriest Victor Lomaszkiewicz, The Archpriest Michael Lomaszkiewicz, The Archpriest Patrick Powalinsky, The Archpriest Yuri Obukh, The Priest Vasyl Maskal, The Priest Oleh Romanyna, Deacon Yakiv Mielnik, Deacon Ivan Savyak.

The newly ordained Deacon Ivan was joined by family, friends, clergy, and faithful who gathered to witness and celebrate this important moment in his life and in the life of the Church.

May our Lord Jesus Christ, through the prayers of His Most Holy Mother and all the Saints, grant His servant Deacon Ivan many blessed years of faithful and fruitful service to Christ and His Holy Church!
