Calendars of Love
Calendars are a vital measure of time in each one of our lives. They help mark the feasts and saints of the Church, appointing the scripture readings, when to fast, anniversaries and other important days. In recent years with the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Ilarion, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada has joyfully revived the ‘Calendar Project’, providing wall calendars to our parishes and faithful.
Each year, all proceeds from these calendars go towards the very important charitable work of the UOCC. Charitable works stem from the dual commandment to love God above all things and one’s neighbour as oneself. (Matthew 22:36-40) This outpouring of love is Agape: a selfless, unconditional, and sacrificial love that seeks the well-being of others without expecting anything in return. It is one of the central tenets of the Nativity Fast (Advent), a season in which we are called not only to dietary discipline and increased prayer, but also to works of mercy.
Through God’s grace we provided $12,000.00 from the sales of the 2025 Ukrainian Orthodox Ecclesiastical (Wall) Calendars to support our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, who continue to suffer amid the ongoing war. This year, with the blessing of Metropolitan Ilarion, the decision was to support the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Western Region – Lviv (Військово-медичний клінічний центр Західного регіону – м.Львів); one of the leading health care institutions of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It is a multidisciplinary clinical, medical and diagnostic center in which military personnel, veterans of the Armed Forces, and civilian patients are treated. The specialization of the center is neurosurgery, traumatology, cardiovascular surgery and rehabilitation treatment. We were able to provide much needed medical equipment in this live-saving labour.
Special thanks to Archpriest Gregory Mielnik and Deacon Yakiv Mielnik for their tireless efforts in preparing these calendars and looking after all aspects of getting these calendars in the hands of the parishes and faithful of our Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
