ЛЕВ, ЩО БУВ ПОСЛУШНИЙ АГНЦЮ

У наступну п’ятницю 11-го вересня будемо святкувати Празник, який вимагає від нас посту та розважання. Це Свято Всікновення Голови святого славного Пророка, Предтечі й Хрестителя Івана. Ось який славний титул Церква дала йому! Цим зазначує його особливе місце в лику Святих.

Він – Пророк, тому що говорив слова, яких Бог дав йому промовляти. Виконав він це з відвагою та авторитетом. Багато-хто послухав його й навернув своє життя до Бога, наслідуючи Його закони замість того, щоб іти тільки за власними бажаннями. Ось це – життя в Божому Царстві, коли ми признаємо Його закони та намагаємось жити згідно з ними. Це – закони любови, що втілюють справедливість, чеснотність, лагідність та співчутливість.

Івана звуть також Предтечею, тому що він ішов перед Христом у Його служінні. Пророк Малахія предсказав його прихід, називаючи його Іллєю (Малахії 4.5). Господь Ісус підтвердив це (Матвія 11.14). Іван не тільки приготовив шлях для Христа, щоб Він прийшов, проповідував, повчав та творив великі діла, звільнюючи людей від гріху, недуги та смерті в цьому світі часу й простору. Він також попередив Його в тому місці, в якому душі спочилих очікували свободи, яка мала наступити через пришестя переможної Жертви-Христа, Кров Якого, пролита на Хресті навіки розбила кайдани гріху та смерті.

Іван помер з рук воїнів Ірода, коли той таки піддався спокусі гордості та марної слави – бо ж наказав убити Івана тільки тому, що не хотів виглядати слабосильним перед своїми гостями, коли Саломія догодила їм своїм танцем і під намовою матері Іродіяди попросила голову Іванову на блюді як нагороду. Отож праведна душа Івана також пішла в те таємниче місце, яке скоро після цього наповнилося світлом через пришестя Славного Агнця, Господа Ісуса, що постраждав ради нас. І він провістив те пришестя усім душам, що очікували цієї радісної події.

Отож ми вшановуємо Івана, що охрестив Христа, вводячи Його в те служіння, які Він сповнив для всієї вселенної. І святкуючи просимо, щоб Господь наповнив і нас тим самим Духом, Який дав йому натхнення стати тим Божим левом, про якого пише Євангелист Марка напочатку своєї розповіді, через що лев став символом цієї Євангелії. І пригадуємо ми, що цей лев був послушний Агнцю Божому. Дай Боже, щоб і ми так само наслідували його приклад смирення, справедливости та відваги.

 

THE LION LED BY THE LAMB

This Friday, September 11, we shall be celebrating a Feast that requires a fast. We shall be commemorating the Beheading of the Holy Prophet, Forerunner and Baptizer John. That is the glorious title that the Church has given him in recognition of the special place he has in the assembly of Saints.

He is a prophet because he spoke the words God gave him to speak. He did so with courage and authority. Many heard him and their souls were stirred to repent, that is to turn their lives around – to follow the laws of God rather than merely obeying the their own will and desires. That is what living in the Kingdom of God is: acknowledging His laws and aspiring to live by them. These are the laws of love. They are comprised of things such as justice, truth, kindness and mercy.

John is also called the Forerunner because he preceded Christ in His ministry. The Prophet Malachi foretold his coming, calling him Elijah (Malachi 4:5), which Jesus confirmed (Matthew 11:14). John did not only prepare the way for Christ to come, preach, teach and work wonders liberating people from sin, sickness and death in this world of time and space. He also preceded Him to the place where the souls of the departed awaited the liberation brought by the coming of the victorious Victim, Whose blood shed upon the Cross forever broke the chains of sin and death.

John died at the hands of Herod’s soldiers, when Herod tragically gave way to the temptation of pride and vanity (he gave the order to kill him only because he did not want to lose face before his guests when Salome, coached by her mother, Herodias, asked for John’s head on a plate as a reward for her dance). Thus John’s righteous soul, too, went to that mysterious place, which was soon to be filled with light at the coming of the Glorious Lamb, Jesus, slain for us. And he announced that coming to all the souls awaiting this joyous event.

Thus we celebrate John, who baptized Christ, initiating Him into the ministry He fulfilled for all the universe. Celebrating, we ask to be filled with the same Spirit that moved him to be the Lion of God that he was (it is this likeness that gives the Gospel of Mark its symbol – since Mark begins his account with the preaching of John). And we recall that this Lion was led by the Lamb. So may we all be today and forever.

 

LE LION GUIDÉ PAR L’AGNEAU

Treizième Dimanche après Pentecôte

Ce vendredi, le 11 septembre, nous allons célébrer une Fête qui nous demande à jeûner. C’est la Décollation du Saint Prophète et Baptiste, Jean le Précurseur. Voilà le titre glorieux que lui a donné l’Église qui note par ceci la place spéciale qu’il a parmi les Saints que Dieu a manifester dans le monde..

Jean est un prophète parce qu’il a proclamé les paroles que Dieu lui a donné. Il l’a fait avec courage et autorité. Beaucoup l’ont entendu et leurs coeurs ont été touchés. Ils ont repenti – ils ont quitté une vie qui ne suit que nos propres nécessités (tels que nous les apercevons), mais qui suit la loi de Dieu. C’est ainsi que nous vivons dans le Royaume de Dieu. Nous reconnaissons la priorité de la loi de Dieu et nous aspirons a vivre selon cette loi qui inclut la justice, la vérité, la compassion et le merci.

Aussi nous appelons Jean le Précurseur parce qu’il a précédé Jésus dans son ministère. Le prophète Malachie a prédit son arrivée, l’appelant Élie. Jésus a confirmé que c’est de Jean qu’a parlé ce prophète. Jean n’a pas tout simplement prépare le chemin pour Jésus de prêcher, d’enseigner et de faire des miracles de libération du péché, des maladies et de la mort dans ce monde. Il Lui a aussi précédé à la place où ont attendu les âmes des décédés la venue du Victime victorieux, dont Son sang versé sur la Croix a brisé pour toujours les chaînes du péché et de la mort.

Jean est mort aux mains des soldats d’Hérode. Ce dernier a été séduit par l’orgueil et la vanité. Il a ordonné l’exécution de Jean parce qu’il n’a pas voulu perdre sa prestige devants ses invités quand Salomé a demandé la tête de Jean sur un tablier comme paiement pour sa danse que lui a plût. Ainsi l’âme juste de Jean est allé à cette place mystérieuse des morts, qui a été rempli toute suite après par la venue de l’Agneau Glorieux, Jésus Qui a été tué pour nous. Jean a proclamé à tous ceux qui attendaient cet événement joyeux qu’Il arrive bientôt.

Ainsi nous célébrons Jean qui a baptisé Jésus et comme ceci l’a initié dans son ministère qu’Il a accompli pour tout l’univers. Et en célébrant nous demandons aussi a être rempli par ce même Esprit que l’a fait comme un lion de Dieu. C’est parce que l’Évangile de Marc commence par la prédication de Jean que le symbole de cet Évangile est le lion. Et nous nous rappelons que ce lion a suivi après l’Agneau. Puis que ça sera ainsi pour nous tous aussi – aujourd’hui et à jamais..
