His Grace Bishop Andriy visited the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Nipawin on August 30, 2009. Bishop Peshko arrived at the church Sunday morning and was greeted at the gates by parish representatives with bread and salt. Upon entering the church he was invited by Rev. Fr. Roman Kocur to come and pray. Also present for the Divine Liturgy were Fr. Jakiw Rybalka from Prince Albert as well as Fr. Bohdan Demczuk from Saskatoon.
"It was a blessing for the church to have this happen. The people were ecstatic to have him come. It was also good for Nipawin because it's not that often a bishop comes," said Fr. Kocur. It's been 50 years since a bishop has visited the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Nipawin. Following the service he had dinner with the parish, met with people and answered their questions. He emphasized the importance of working together and opening the doors for people to come into the church. People came from Saskatoon and Prince Albert to see him. This shows how close the people feel to their bishop and the importance his role in the church really is.
